YOUR OWN PURPOSE-BUILT WINDOW ON THE UNIVERSE
How to find us
The North Pennines Observatory is not open to the public and is only accessible by guests booked into organised events.
The Observatory is located at Allenheads Contemporary Arts (ACA) at the Old Schoolhouse overlooking the Village of Allenheads in the North Pennines.
Address: North Pennines Observatory, The Old School House, Allenheads, Northumberland NE47 9HR
The Observatory is located at the top of an extremely steep access road but only has very limited space for parking or drop-off for visitors who have mobility problems. During winter months the steep access road can also become impassable due to snow and ice. Visitors should preferably therefore park at the bottom of the hill, or in one of the car parks in the centre of Allenheads, and make the five minute walk up to the Observatory on foot.
Visitors are asked to park considerately and respect local residents by keeping noise and disturbance to a minimum when leaving the Observatory late at night.
Please note that warm clothing will be required (the Observatory building is unheated) and appropriate footwear is essential during winter months when the road surfaces are regularly icy. A torch will also be necessary to safely navigate the unlit access road up to the Observatory
The North Pennines Observatory is owned and operated by the North Pennines AONB Partnership
