An open event in conjunction with Allenheads Contemporary Arts 

This event, at the end of World Space Week 2017, will mark both start of a new night sky observing season across the North Pennines and formal opening of the new North Pennines Observatory.

  • From 4pm ACA Gallery in the centre of Allenheads will be exhibiting a new sound and visual installation by the French artist Caroline Lé Mehauté’s,  Négociation 82 – Méta.
  • 7pm Official opening at North Pennines Observatory
  • 7.15pm Light Refreshments
  • ‘Space – what is it good for.’ A talk by Professor Chris Welch at ACA exploring space, looking at the benefits of space research and exploration. 

Professor Welch is a resident Faculty member of the International Space University of Strasbourg and a Visiting Lecturer in Spacecraft Propulsion at Cranfield University in the UK. He is also a winner of the Sir Arthur Clarke Award for Space Education and a Director of the World Space Week Association. His current research interests include space propulsion, microgravity science and planetary exploration. 

This is a a free event but spaces need to be booked for catering purposes

The North Pennines Observatory is owned and operated by the North Pennines AONB Partnership

The Observatory is currently only available for private bookings
