Astrophotography – Milky Way and Waterfalls

  • 1 Nov 2018
  • 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Bowlees Visitor Centre, Barnard Castle

This event is part of the second annual North Pennines Stargazing Festival running between 20 Oct-04 Nov 2018, during Half-Term.   Organised by the North Pennines AONB Partnership and supported by: Durham County Council; Northumberland County Council and Visit County Durham, the 2018 Stargazing Festival will take advantage of the area's stunning dark skyscape with 30 events over the two weeks unlocking the wonders of the night sky. If you are an existing Supporting Members of North Pennines Observatory you can enjoy discounted ticket prices for some paid-for events during the festival.

Join Gary Lintern to learn the basics of astrophotography and nighttime landscape photography. After a short discussion about equipment and techniques, we will head to Low Force.

The Moon will be rising just before midnight, so the sky will be completely dark. Subject to conditions, we will be able to see and photograph the Milky Way.

You will need a camera on which you can adjust the focus, shutter speed, aperture, and ISO manually and a tripod. The best lens would be a wide landscape lens with a wide aperture, but we can work with whatever you have. Wrap up warm and bring a red light torch (if you have one).

There are two sessions to choose from: 6.30 to 8pm; and 8.30 to 10pm.

Booking: Pre-booking essential via Eventbrite

Cost: Adults – £25 + Eventbrite booking fee
